I was born in 1968, and have always had a distant interest in Space. I'm a Sales Manager (sorry) for a US SCADA software company. Live in a small village in England. I'm married with no kids. Hobbies include Computers, walking, travelling.

Here Goes
Do I believe in E.T. hmmmm tough question. I certainly believe that there is life out there - even if that is at a micro level. As for real walking talking life forms with intelligence enough to communicate with us, I don't know. I think we should be searching for such life forms - just in case!
If we ever make contact with inteligent life I hope we have moved on enough to show them how Humans can live together. Currently any peaceful life-form intelligent enough to reach us would be horrified by the lack of respect we have for each other. The rich 1/3 of the world with it's problems of over consumption and selfishness. The other 2/3 of the world living in poverty with no food, clothing etc. When we reach the point where people do not need to escape from their surroundings into a '1st world' country, then and only then will the world be ready to live along side a more advanced Intelligent life-form from another world.
If we do make contact, it could bring great benefits to us. The abiility to create energy cleanly without disrupting the natural balance of our eco-system. Improve the efficiency of our farms - an end to famine. The possibilities are endless.
Of course there could be a downside to exposing ourselves to E.T.s - they could be agressive. What's to say they have not already destroyed their planet - just like we are trying to do. They could have a diminished source of raw-materials required to live. They could need fuel, or an atmoshphere suitable for them to breath. They could even need food in the form of meat. Could they be looking for such a planet at this minute? Could our attempts to expose ourselves to an intelligent peaceful being finally bring an end to our 'civilised' world?
On balance I hope for contact with a peaceful nation of selfless beings -that can help us develop from a barbaric selfish community into a more enlightened race of people, a race of people who deserve the title of Human Being. |
