Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't think that there is any doubt that extraterrestrial life exists. The universe is just TOO large for it not to. The discovery of such life may lead to a maturing of the human race. I don't see any downsides to the discovery, but contact, that's another story. Just look at the history we have with contact between more advanced civilizations with lesser advanced civilizations. Why should we believe that alien civilizations would be any less vicious than us? I don't like the idea of advertising our presence. Let's find something out there and see what thy're all about BEFORE we say 'Howdy'.

I run Seti because I believe that it can eventually find something and I would like to be a small part of that. Imagine how it would feel to process the first unit that actually finds signs of alien life.
