Personal background |
I live in the UK and work in the creative industries, design, photography, print etc. My interests include SciFi & its art (from the golden age :1920 - 1980); astronomy; art & design; type & type design; physics; technology; HiFi; photography; film; Pink Floyd; fine food & drink; dance & trance music; Laurel & Hardy; old radio comedy & drama; hundreds of other things - in fact I find it almost impossible not to be interested in most things. I dislike TV, all forms of religion, UFO freaks, conspiracy theorists, far right-wingers, and people who make enemies of those with whom they simply disagree.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I think there almost certainly is extraterrestrial life. We may never discover it because the Universe is so generously proportioned and the speed of light so measley.
I do entertain the thought, occasionally, that in our evolution as a technological race, we may simply have missed something fundamental; we may have discovered radio where most other civilisations discover gravity waves first. There may be a huge community of chattering civilisations out there, all communicating by gravio.
If these civilisations were sufficiently advanced to overcome time dilation and visit our rock, I find it incrediby hard to beleive all they'd do is bug a few lonely drivers and hikers, cut up a few cows or make patterns in crop fields in Wiltshire.
I run SETI@Home because I really want to find out for sure if there is other life in the Universe; if there's a chance that SETI@Home will find out one way or the other, then I'll help. I suppose its an insatiable idle curiosity. The same curiosity that makes me wonder what sunset is like on Jupiter and Mars - it has no tangible benefits; its just incredibly interesting. |
