Personal background
I have what my friends jokingly call a split personality.
During the work day I am a computer support provider and webmaster for an organization at Cornell University. I run two web servers hosting 6 domains/department web sites, write web-based systems for my department, and provide direct technical support for 30 people. Thankfully I don't have to do that last part alone. I could be considered a typical techie... I read fantasy/sci-fi almost exclusively, I know Star Wars Episodes IV - VI by heart, participate in Seti@Home, and I am currently a member of the Planetary Society.
Ahhh... but when I get home from work and am not in the mood to read, I transport myself back in time. I spin yarn from wool and silk, I weave, sew costumes, embroider, research the fourteenth century, I knit, crochet, dye the yarn I've spun, and garden. My love of fiber arts is equal to my love of computers.
I am also a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, an international group of reenactors of varying levels of interest in the Middle Ages.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am positive extraterrestrial life exists some where out in the Universe. It is a rather large place, the Universe, and I don't know if humans will ever discover life else where but we should try.
