Profile: Ken Sundwall

Personal background
I am an avid scifi-phile who enjoys anything futuristic (as long as it is believable and possible). I am an amateur radio operator, musician, computer hobbyist and family man. I have twin daughters (natural), 3 stepdaughters, and numerous foster children. Oh and now 2 grandchildren. One girl (our pride and joy) age 2 1/2 and a brand new grandson, as of 8/1/2001. He came into THIS world at a whopping 9lbs 15oz. My hope is that sometime in my grandchildrens life, humanity will find peace and that the universe opens up many of its secrets, including the discovery of new life on other planets.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think the SETI@home project is probably one of the best uses of home computers yet conceived. I wish I could find more projects of similar professionalism and quality as the SETI@home project. It is my hope and belief that this type of project will one day proof fruitful.
To answer the 3 questions on the user profile setup page...

1. Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
YES!!! (emphatically) No one can predict when or even how humans will one day contact ET's, but it is my belief that any dedicated project can only help to ensure that it will be sooner than later!!! As for benefits or dangers, it is my hope and belief that any civilization that has become advanced enough to communicate with other worlds or (dare I dream) travel to other worlds, will have also discovered how to do away with hatred, greed, and other reasons for warring. The benefits will be a multitude of new ideas in science, medicine, education and exploration.

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send? Without a doubt, we should be transmitting everything possible to attempt to make contact with other lifeforms. Since we have no idea what other lifeforms will understand, we should be transmitting signals with pictures, ALL languages, mathematics, science information, or anything that another intelligent life form could easily decipher.

3. Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions? As stated in this profile, I am a scifi-phile. I think the project is fun and being a bit of an egotist, I would love to be able to be the first human to find an actual signal from beyond the bounds of earth. My view....I think every new computer in the world should have SETI@home bundled, like Windows, with it. The project should be heavily funded by all peoples of the world. Maybe if we concentrated on finding new life, we could forget about fighting and
