Profile: John Buchanan

Personal background
Originally from the Island of Sark in the British Channel Islands.
Worked for an international Telecommunications company for 38 years on their Foreign Service staff. This meant travelling to and living in many overseas countries over a 38 year period.
Extensive knowledge of telecommunications, starting with HF radio communications - specialising in error correcting systems. Then moving on to Satellite systems, initially working on the Sky-Lab project with NASA and then as a Project Manager building satellite tracking stations in different countries.
Finally moving into management of countrywide communications systems including mobile phones before retiring at the ripe old age of 54 in 1993.

Main hobbies are computing, amateur research into Gravity and Cosmology and playing stock market as private investor.

For playtime; snow skiing and scuba diving (but prefer warmer water) and finally Scottish Country Dancing,(helps keep me fit). Still enjoy travelling, but prefer offbeat places.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Because I firmly believe there is someone out there. The figures for the size of our galaxy (not to mention how many galaxies there are) and the number of stars that are similar to our own, make it impossible to believe we are alone.
