Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The share volume of suns with the probability of planets around them seems to suggest the existence of extraterrestrial life forms somewhere else in the universe.
The existence of intelligence life forms is another matter. Many Christian theologies say; “That God created man as the only intelligence life form in the universe.†The Bible is silence about extraterrestrial life forms other than angels and demons. From the Christian point of view one can believe in extraterrestrials without going to hell.
All intelligence life forms develop ways to commutate with themselves. As the extraterrestrials technology increases the way they commutate with themselves changes. At some point in their technology development they will use radio waves of some type.
Over the next 20 years we will explore deeper in to space with land base radio telescopes. With the addition of the radio telescopes to the space station we will discover extraterrestrials signals of a mathematical nature. Some religions will use this contact to their advanced. Other religions will call it evil. Contact with extraterrestrial will only come after a return message can be sent. Depending on the nature and time needed for the return message to reach the extraterrestrials. It may take more than 100 years for us to receive the aliens’ next message.
The unknown always seem dangerous. If the Alien race we come in contact with is technology superior to us then we should have little to worry about. The major benefits for us would be in learning their technology. A greatly superior intelligence alien may consider us the same way we think of cows. An alien insect like race might consider us food.
No matter what the first contact with a alien life form is, it will change mankind forever. We will no longer be alone in the universe. Friend or enemy the alien life form will help us understand our need to be united. We will discover the need to understand them.
