Personal background
As one of the Adirondack Contingent, I reside in the Adirondack Mountains of
Upstate New York.

I am 40 years old, working in the construction industry building and remodeling
homes and some of the Great Camps here in the Adirondacks. I enjoy hiking,
camping, boating, and other outdoor activities in all seasons here; I also
enjoy computer games, helping friends build and update conputers, and gaining
information on, and browsing, the Internet.

I have always been fascinated with science, science fiction, space exploration,
and astronomy since I was a little kid. Having been a member of SETI@Home has
been a bit of a dream come true: I am now able to assist in space science, both
in searching for Extra Terestrial signals as well as providing some of the
groundwork and base data for other space science that is drawn from this
material.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have a firm belief that extra terestrial life exists out there somewhere.
In plentiful and diverse numbers. Further, I believe that with all that life
out there, some of it has evolved intelligence.

I also have firm religious faith, believing in God, us as His creation, and in
His teachings to us in how we should live and interact with Him and each other.

Many people think those two mutually exclusive. I, however, disagree. I find
that my feelings of faith and belief in God are increased when I contemplate
extraterestrial life.
How conceited and egotistical are we, that we believe we are the only living,
intelligent beings He made? And with all the loving creativity required to
have created all we see and discover, almost on a daily basis, I for one would
not seek to place limits on His creativity.
-----
I feel that we shouldn't attempt to sent signals or a beacon out for others to
find untill we have solved more of the problems that plague us here on our home
planet. Problems such as affordable energy, food for all, firmer and sounder
economies, and issues of voilence and crime amongst ourselves. Until such
problems are solved, or at least dealt with in a better way, we would be ill
served in using up the resources required to send such a beacon.
-----
SETI@home, to me, is a dream come true, both in allowing the private, average
citizen the ability to contribute to such important science in a meaningful
way, and in my own, personable ability to assist in searching for life that I
know beyond doubt has to be out there.

Thank you, SETI@home.
