Personal background
Richard Deakin from Perth in Western Australia aged 58 looking after the IT systems in an IVF laboratory. Interested in IT (surprisingly?), motorbikes, science fiction (rather than science fantasy), offspring and their offspring.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I first saw, by chance, SETI@home on the web in the 90's sometime and thought that it'd be cool if I was codiscoverer of extra terrestrial radio signals (a la Jodi Foster in 'Contact'). I'm also interested in astronomy and science fiction so have a bent in that direction. I thought that we had the processing capability so what the hell, why not. Liked it when it was simple and I could just download character based Linux and Windoze variants but can understand why boinc is used for other projects.
