Personal background
Well, i am a student of biology and live in Germany since my birth (which 22 years ago).
My hobbies are listening to Music (Mostly Metal, Rock etcetc.), going out with friends, DVDs, PC, and so on.
I am not so good in talking 'bout myself, so i quit this for now.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Well...i was mainly raised by the TV, and there Sci-Fi Series were allways my favorite. Not because of the series itself but also because of the imagination traveling through the galaxy and discoving intelligent life on other planets (or even in space).
Astronomy is a very interessting field of science, and for a biologist the search for extraterrestrial life is a major concern connecting hobbie and study.
I think there is life out there. As said in the movie Contact it would be a pretty waste of space if there wasn't life outside our solar system.

Well, benefits and dangers....
I think humankind is not yet ready for a peaceful contact with aliens. therefor a united earth would be necessary, otherwise every nation would like to keep the contact for itself.
a hostile contact with aliens otherwise would be a way to unite humankind...but if we would survive this ;)

But till aliens orbit our earth it will be a long time. first chance is we receive a signal, some hundred years old.

enough speculations for now...when, where and how we get a "first contact" will show not sooner then the time it happens...
