Profile: Scott Spiess

Personal background
Hi there, I am Scott Spiess and I am a married 36 year old systems administrator, who lives in Roseville, California (USA). I was first introduced to Seti about 2 and half years ago by a friend. Having a few extra computers around, I started crunching packets. Most of my friends think that I am a little crazy for dedicating computer resources to the Seti cause. I really think that even if we don't find anything out there, we have started a process of distributed computing and scientific research. I think the ends justify the means on this one.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think there is extraterrestrial life out there. The universe would be such a complete waste of space without more of us (intelligent beings) running around. I think that we should be very careful with how we go about contacting any other beings. We have sent out several probes over the years and I think that this is a good start. Once we have a sound understanding of what we are doing and what we want to do once we have made contact, then we should beam away. I also think that the government (usa) should not have direct control over any of this project because this is truly a world wide project.
