Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1). Yes. Who is to say it has not already been discovered and subsequently 'lost'? They may be friendly but poisonious to Human life, then again they may be hostile and 'indifferent' to Human life.

2). Yes. We should send information about life on our planet, our knowledge of our solar system and our position in the Universe (as best we can assume).

3). To assist in the search. Positive, if it helps to bring humanity together and help us realize that we are one species, many races, creeds and colors, but one species. Advertise. I found out about this program from a collegue while working on assignment in Australia. The more people that are aware that such a program exists, the more we will get involved. Speak to representatives of public television about airing free advertisments during telethons. See if Ted Turner or Rupert Murdoch (sic) may be interested in 'helping the cause'. Appeal to the writers of the newest 'Startrek' series to incorporate the seti-at-home project into the show, if even for just a mention.
