Profile: John Gruenenfelder

Personal background
I'm an astronomy student at the University of Arizona. I work at Steward Observatory doing system maintainance and programming of imaging tools. I've been working at Steward for my entire time at the UofA... it's a nice place. :) I've got SETI@Home running on two machines in my office during the night.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life does exist... or perhaps more correctly, I want it to exist. I really can't even begin to guess whether or not the SETI program will find anything, but, as others have said before, if you don't look then your guaranteed not to find anything.

We should continue to transmit a beacon into space. Afterall, we're looking for such signals, perhaps others are too.

I run SETI@home mostly because I believe in the project and do think that, ETs or not, it serves a good purpose. Also, my two machines at work are on all the time so they might as well be doing something at night, right? And SETI sure beats some lame commercial hack or cracking RC5 packets.
