Personal background
The name the world knows me by is "Raven" and I'd like to leave it as such. My birthname is, and always has been, a secret to the Internet community.

I am the webmaster for http://www.ravensrants.com where I post my poetry, rants, stories, essays and other works of literature.

Currently, I am a 21-year-old male residing in Columbia, South Carolina and an Advertiisng major at the University of South Carolina. I plan to graduate in May 2002 and from there head to parts unknown.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that the odds pretty much indicate that there HAS to be extraterrestrial life out there. I do not know if humans will discover it, if they will discover us or niether, but I have to believe that somewhere out there another civilization, perhaps far beyond our own exists.

I think the question of sending a beacon out is a purely philisophical one. However, every day we are sending out our own beacon of radio waves and they, perhaps moreso than any concocted message contain the keys to what the human race is really about.

Besides, ET might like Baywatch...

I am involved with the SETI@Home project because even though I think the chances of finding ET this way are slim, even the slightest cnance is worth the effort. We need to be looking because if ET should come calling us, the last thing we want to do is let the phone ring indefinitely.

Also, the discovery of life outside of our planet would make our differences here on earth seem rather petty. Perhaps the greatest present ET could give us is to put our current situation in proper perspective...
