| I'm a university student from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I write music and software, and I draw pictures with my hands when I talk. I've been influenced strongly in my goals by the writing of Larry Niven, and in my sense of humour by the late Douglas Adams. I believe humanity needs new frontiers next to which our individualistic quibbling will seem unimportant. Thus, if I become rich I will build a spacecraft and take six thousand of my closest friends on a mission of exploration and colonization, in the hope that this action -- strategic and symbolic -- will make things better at both ends. In the more likely event that I am stuck here on Earth my whole life, I will endeavour to make my spacefaring spirit infectious. I shudder to think of the consequences if scientists and enthusiasts alike are left on the ground while economic concerns dictate the uncertain future of our species in space. |

| I think extraterrestrial life exists. Extraterrestrial intelligence is another matter, though I consider it almost a certainty that it has existed, or will exist, elsewhere in the universe. If it exists now, it is quite possible that we have be limited in our search by our methods of perception, and that some species may be broadcasting right now by a technique completely obvious to them and inconceivable to us. But we would be failing our history of knowledge-building if we were to be dissuaded from looking simply because it is too difficult. We must do what we can with what we have where we are, and hope that we learn something in the process. |
