| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I first heard about SETI from my brother Kurt, back in 1999. He was running it on his laptop and his desktop at home. I joined up a few months later.
2. I run SETI@home because I too hate to see my CPU cycles going to waste. I believe this project is a worthwhile one, that there needs to be an active and ongoing look to the stars for intelligent lifeforms. I believe that the SETI@home project fits into that niche rather nicely.
3. ET is out there and will be found, either by diligent searching or by just plain old dumb luck.
I think the possible dangers are there regarding first contact, but total enslavement of mankind would be a small price to pay to get higher tech than what we have now (just kidding.) If it were up to me, I would NOT transmit any locater beams yet.
