Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm a skeptic about the existence of extraterristrial life, however I concede that it is a real possiblity. I'm waiting for HARD evidence.

I believe that a first encounter with such life forms will be neither kind, gentle and respectful nor violent. I instead believe that such life forms will view us as insects, and like we might swat at an annoying gnat, they may do the same to us.

I do NOT believe that ETs have in anyway influenced our genetic makeup and I do not believe that they visit us or watch us. I think we would bore them or even find us equivelent to stepping onto a fire ant mound in bare feet.

I do think that we should send a beacon, however. The reason is that because it would take so long, maybe we will have grown up when it reaches someone (if it reaches someone) who recognizes it as communication from intelligent life.

I run Seti At Home because I can, and I want proof of the existence of ETs one way or another. I am not vested in either outcome.

I also think Seti At Home is a brilliant idea and a way to maximize the flow of information into Seti at a reduced cost. Bravo!
