Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I was told about SETI@home by a co-worker and was hooked. I have my own server at home on cable-modem up 24x7 and figured the dual procs could be put to use when I'm not using it. I found that the overhead of running SETI all the time rather than as a screen saver was minimal so it now is truly 24x7.

I FIRMLY believe there is life outside of Planet Earth and hope we find it in my lifetime. I participate to help this cause because of my strong belief.

Besides, maybe E.T. holds the key to the fountain of youth and we can all remain young, disease-free space travelers!

There's the element of danger in every unknown, but we must risk the discovery for the potential benefits it could provide. Perhaps time travel, teleportation of carbon based life, warp speeds and speed of light will all be achieved when we are taught by another race from a distant planet.

Then again, they may come and simply wipe us out. That will be the case if the government discovers them before the SETI people do.
