Profile: Bruce

Personal background
I live in Herndon, VA. I was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1958. Until 2000, I was a computer programmer/database administrator/corporate instructor; I quit my job to be a stay-at-home dad. When my daughter started attending preschool full-time, I decided to start a new career as a high school teacher. I now teach Math and Computer Science at Falls Church HS in Virginia.

Schools that I've attended include PS 238 in Brooklyn (grades K-8), John Dewey HS in Brooklyn (9-10), Clarkstown HS South in New City, NY (10-12), Cornell University (Bachelor's degree in Math and Physics), George Mason University (Master's in Computer Science), and Shenandoah University (education courses).

My hobbies are reading speculative fiction, collecting cameras, and photography. Special interests within that are cameras from the former Soviet Union, and stereo cameras. As I write this in March 2005, I'm a first-year teacher; this means that I don't actually have time for any hobbies. I'm looking forward to getting back to them this summer.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because the question of alien intelligence fascinates me. I think that finding it with SETI@HOME is a pretty long shot, but I sure don't have any better ideas of how to proceed, and I leave my computers on 24x7 anyway... it pleases me to know that they're doing something of interest while I'm not using them.
