At first i would like to greet all the fellow setihome users out there. My name is Michael Janoschek alias Jano. I am a 21 year old student and i live in Vienna(Austria). My hobbies are playing(working) with my computer, to go out with friends and i also make some sport as well if i have time.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

1.Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

There has to be extraterrestrial life! Why? Well there are many reasons. The universe is too big to be just for one race! It would be a waste of space if we are alone. Many scientists believe that life on earth comes from asteroids that crashed into our planet! If this is true where did this asteroids come from? We dont have the abilities to prove the existence of extraterrestrial life but we have a chance with the SETI project!

2.Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?

We already did that with the voyager probes and i think we should continue to do so! We know that the chance for this messages to be found by extraterrestrial life is pretty bad but a try is a try. And about the information i think it is pretty clear what we should send. Informations about our planet and how they can find it!

3.Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

I heard about setihome even before i had internet and i was fascinated by the idea. Even though i think that our chance to find a signal of "aliens" is pretty bad i really think that this is the right way. People all over the world work together for a non-profit goal! Just for the chance to find a signal of extraterrestrial life! Thats how we will manage to explore the space and to live together united in a world of freedom!
