Personal background
I am a sophmore at Claremont McKenna college. I am currently a classics-PreMed major. I work as a waitress at Lakewater Cafe, just outside of Claremont. I am currently working on a research project on Faerie mythology and the Seelie and Unseelie courts, which I hope to expand into a senior dissertation or honor project.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I became interested in SETI@home after reading Cosmic Connection by Carl Sagan. I feel that discovering Extraterristrial Intelligence has so much potential to teach humans about themselves and could be very philosophically and culturally beneficial, and I feel that I should help the cause as much as I can. Humanity may never discover extraterrestrial life, and we will never if NASA's budget doesn't stop getting cut, but it is worth it to humanity to believe in it and to be forced to unify as a people so that we have a front to present. By thinnking about the message that we would like to convey to the multiverse about ourselves we have a chance to shape ourselves into the type of species we would like to be. And we need to send out a message, so that roaming aliens will not have our radio and TV broadcasts, fraught with lies, propoganda and violence as the only clue to our society: we owe it to ourselves and to the universe to present Earth as we would like it to be seen and then live Earth in that manner.

There may not be other life out there, but if there's not that's a big waste of space.
