Profile: Aleta van Riper Turner

Personal background
I'm a geoarchaeology graduate student at the University of Georgia Department of Geology. Right now, I'm working full-time as a real estate title examiner, but soon I'll be back to looking at soapstone bowls and quarries.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think the probability that there is extraterrestrial life is extremely high. The universe is just too vast for this one blue dot to be the only place life developed. I suspect there is life in varying stages from extremely simple to extremely complex on many planets in many solar systems. I don't have any idea when we'll find it, unless it is relatively soon on Mars or possibly elsewhere in this solar system. I do hope we find evidence of fossil (or possibly still extant!) microbial life on Mars. I think this is our greatest possibility of finding ET life in the near future.

I love science in general and this is an easy way for me to contribute to science. Nothing of any interest at all may be found in the data my computer analyses, but we wouldn't know that without its having been analysed. The more people running SETI@Home, the more and the faster we can learn.
