Personal background
I am a 35 year chemical engineer working in Detroit, Michigan, USA. I have been looking for a better job, studying for my engineering license, spending too much of time surfing the web, and walking around Northville for exercise when it is not too cold.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life exists out there somewhere. We earthlings (is that what we call our selves?) will probably find some strange radio waves that will be assumed to be generated from an intelligent life in the next 20 years or so. Mars may still have some primitive life. Mars Exploration Rovers going up soon will help figure out where all the water went.

I don't think we should transmit a beacon because our space development is not far along yet. We should send several listening probes out of the solar system. Maybe we could see over the opaque hump in the center of our own galaxy. Of course these probes could also do other science as well. The success of Pioneer 10 proves that you can get pretty far away and still hear an 8 Watt transmitter.

I run Seti@home because I can help. I think Seti@home proves that a huge amount of computer time is available to solve huge problems. I think Seti@home could go on forever with different analysis.
