Personal background
I'm (now - 1964) years old and work as a software engineer for a small company in Munich, Germany.

Cycling, music, ham radio and reading are my favourite hobbies - next to using
computers for "playing" - as I describe it :-) Well, I also have to feed my small
family by writing serious software (REAL software, I'd like to add: we're using ADA ;)...

Sorry, I can't offer a fancy homepage. The only thing I could possibly brag about: at the
end of the RC5-64 project I occupied a place of about 5700 :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
No. No. No. Being an avid reader of science fiction literature, I discovered that my mind is far too narrow to accept the existence of ET lifeforms ;)

The only advantages I would see in making contact are: we would have another dramatically different culture to deal with; hopefully "they"
would tell us how mad our social interaction between races and religions appears to an outsider. Given this unique "mirror view" I only hope
that some of the political/cultural/religious leaders have enough intact brain cells to get ashamed, cooperative and an idea of global friendship and unity.

The only disadvantage: ET might consider this planet ruined, the ruling lifeform as environmental threat and all efforts to change them a waste of time... and pass by :)
So we should transmit something like "species with universal couriosity but very limited abilities as an open minded partner suggests: make contact at own risk".

Why I run SETI? Well, I started submitting my first result about 1 week after the project start. Then I fell for the idea that I might be the one to win in a commercial
CPU cycle sharing project - RC5-64 - and switched my machines to this client.
...now I'm back to try my best for this part of the community.

Suggestions:
- make the distributed work packets smaller
- tune the clients
- make the user database more interesting by adding the ability to enter the geographic location of the client
