Personal background
As you can see from the picture, I am a fairly random person. I do actually play the bagpipes. I also enjoy music, and am currently studying software engineering. I also hold a black belt in Shito-ryu Karate-do. I enjoy sarcasm, and love trying new things.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that in an area as large as the one we live in (as far as we know, infinite) it would be arrogant and ignorant to believe that we're the only ones. I don't know if we'll discover other life, because who knows if they want to be discovered, if they're already here, if they haven't achieved a level of technology that we can pick up, or if they're so far past us that we can't pick up transmissions. We don't know, that's why we're looking.

I think that since we want to be discovered by other species, it would make great sense for us to transmit a beacon so that we would be able to be found. I think we should be transmiting numerical sequences or musical melodies, because they are universal.

I personally run Seti@home because my P3 500 doesn't have anything better to do with its processor cycles. (I'm also running a dual Athlon MP 1500, in case you're wondering) I also don't see any reason that we shouldn't be looking for other life. My only suggestion for other Seti users is to switch to the commandline client. It's faster.
