Personal background

I'm a 24-year-old systems analyst for the Student Media department at the Universiy of Arizona, and am currently on the books as a Japanese lit major pursuing a minor in CS. In reality, I am pursuing both a BA in East Asian Studies and a BS in computers, but life is complicated that way.

I am a dropout of the 9th class at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (Go Hamsters!) and am a big fan of Terry Pratchett, Lupin III, and Megatokyo. In my spare time, I am one of the administrators of the SIMud LP mudlib project, and have been for about six years now. Oh, and my wife is cuter than yours. Neener.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

Of course there is life outside of earth. We will never discover it.

We are already transmitting beacons, they're called television and radio broadcasts. I think it's a pretty good sampling of the world culture.

I've got entirely too many servers that sit idle for half of the time, they need something to do and I don't feel like making them participate in less reputable distributed computation projects.

One of my machines is a DEC Alpha running Linux. The client program refused to start for the first time without my telling it to ignore lockfiles... Works fine now.
