| Personal background |
I heard about SETI@home a year before it started while listening to NPR on our local station (I think it was All Things Considered), and saw an article in Scientific American. I signed up then.
I am an Electrical Engineer doing design and support for a product currently in clinical trials in the U.S. for the treatment of prostate cancer. It is called the SONABLATE 500 and uses focused ultrasound to ablate (burn) internal tissues from outside the body. It is bloodless, and considered outpatient surgery. Kind of like Doc McCoy's surgical instrument in Star Trek! It is a real product and if you are intrested, it can be seen on our web site at www.focus-surgery.com
I've always been interested in science that extends our awareness in areas "outside" our current awareness and have also been intrested in cosmology since being a teenager. I run it on several machines at home and four or five at work. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
| I think if extraterrestrial life exists, it may be discovered by accident, much like ours may be once the "radioactive broadcast bubble" sweeps past someone who is listening. I just hope we won't be judged as a species based on those programs of Orsen Wells "War of the Worlds" and TVs "I Love Lucy". We may get some very curious replies. |
