Personal background
So, yeah, I've done SETI@home off and on for a long long time now. I'm watchin the skies! Doin my part to contact our distant neighbors. All they have to do is follow our signals and unleash hell on Earth! Thinkin about it..... it may not be the greatest idea, but I really wanna know what's out there, for better or for worse. Besides, if movies have taught us anything, we're totally gonna own them if they turn out to be hostile... Thank you Jeff Goldblum! Realistically, we're probably not gonna find anything. That doesn't mean they're not out there, but the distance might be way too far... At least we can try. The chances however that an intelligent civilization either at our level or beyond it is existing at the moment in time as we are is highly remote. Thirteen billion years of possible civilization development and we happen to be close enough in proximity to contact and at the same stage in development (a blink of an eye in terms of time)..... that'd be amazing. I seem skeptical? I am. Only fools aren't. But it's that One out of a billion chance that keeps me scanning the skies...
