Profile: Darryl Dravland

Personal background
I'm just a person that has always been facinated with space, stars and what's out there. Hence my undying love for all the Star Trek and Star Wars films, Contact(my favorite). I don't get much time to venture into this realm very often at all, so this way I can try to get some exposure during the course of the day or week.
I wish I could say that I took classes, studied in college, or belonged to some of the organizations in town(Cincinnati,OH), but my only real experience was with a couple visits to our local observatory(in the company of a local club of ameture astronomers). Saturn was in full glory and brilliant! I believe we had a 13" lens here(the smaller of two scopes). It was still amazing.
Maybe I'll have the chance to get together with them again someday, when my days are filled with the more mundane things such as a day-job.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Q1-I can fall back on the same answer that came out of the movie 'Contact'. 'It sure would be an awful waste of space, if there wasn't.' To try to imagine the enormity of the universe, and then to consider the possibility of e.t. life...what a lonely place this planet would seem to me to be, if there wasn't!

Q2-Not sure. I kinda think that we should discover our way ourselves, instead of inviting others to help us find it.

Q3-I, again, am not very knowledgeable about 'the project', but my brother has the same on his PC. So, it can't be bad. I like the idea of being involved in something like this. It seems more constructive than the alternative. Plus, it will keep me involved in something that I will always be interested in. I just want to learn more about 'the project'.

I'm just someone that finds himself trying to escape the doldrums of everyday life, with that of a past love and interest. I've worked too many years, doing 'the job' instead of fulfilling my dreams.
