Profile: Tim Chemacki (At Home)

Personal background

I am an engineer (by education anyway) in my thirties. Currently, I am living in a small town in Connecticut.

I have wanted to be an astronaut since I was a child, and hope some day I can reach that goal...without having to spend $20 million, I hope! In the mean time, I guess I will do what I can as an space enthusiast.

I have started a website for space enthusiasts (http://www.sewardaerospace.com), but long hours at work have made it difficult to build it as fast as I'd like. Anyway, check it out!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

For a long time I have wondered whether we are alone in the universe. Based on the sheer size of the universe, it seems hard to believe that Earth would be the only place that harbors any life, let alone "intelligent" life.

The discovery of extraterrestrial life - particularly intelligent life - would probably be just about the most life-changing discovery in history. However, I wonder whether it's a good idea to broadcast our existence. I think I'd prefer to use the passive approach...
