Profile: Uwe Engelke

Personal background
My name is Uwe, I´m 44 years old and I work near the EXPO town Hannover as IT Systems Engineer for a midsize trading company. (www.geniatec.de)
I have a 16 year old daughter named Cynthia and a little son of two named Niklas, that I´m very proud of. He seems to be very clever, he´s telling funny two-word sentences all day long :-)
My hobbys are all kind of communication systems from amateur radio to image processing from air with personal computers. So my interest in SETI is not far from it, throwing the rope from having an ear on short wave listening to the digital packets from the SETI project. After a break in 2000 changing workplace I revived my SETI account with some machines at work and at home. That was after seeing "Contact" with Jodie Foster on TV recently.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The word "if we were the only intelligent species and there are so many billions of planets in space this would be a waste of space from nature" in the movie "Contact" is the main idea for me to stick to this project. Maybe we get a reply to our radio messages in 4800 years. Then we all SETI members will be dust and forgotten...but we sure processed a bunch of workunits, didn´t we? And maybe, maybe....we are still found in a statistic chart then...who knows? :-))
