Profile: Joe Battig

Personal background
I am 25 years old, born September 26, 1978.
In Poplar Bluff, Missouri. USA.
I have been aroung personal computers since I was about 7 1/2.
Although I have always wondered what was in space where we can't see, I didn't know we could. Thanks to my friend Craig, I now work for Seti and the curious people of the world.

My pc:
Intel Pentium 4 2400Mhz
Asus P4G8X Deluxe

Something wierd about SETI:
When seti is running it uses about 98% cpu time.
I play Wolfenstein alot (ALOT!) and today when I exited Wolfenstein
seti was running. I didn't notice any drop in game performance.
I don't know how much cpu time Wolfenstein uses, but I am sure it is a lot.
It uses over 250 megs of ram normally.

My hobbies:
Women, of all kinds. They're without a doubt the best hobby.
Radiocommunication of any kind.
Music of the rock and metal kind.
People of the third kind.
Parties.
Playing guitar.
Wolfenstein!!! Get it!!!
I am a jack-of-all-trades really.
Computers are just easiest for me.
Hacky-sacking is the bomb.
I thought about just typing, "Hacking is the bomb."
but you can figure out why not.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think we are all extraterrestrial lifeforms.
Maybe a shot in the dark but oh well, here we are...
No I don't think we should have an,"Earth-to-Alien Transponder".
Why: Because the goverment would screw it up.
They do something stupid and have some moron put a message in that represents themselves, not the majority of Earths population.
If a signal were sent from Earth, I wouldn't want it to "say" anything.
Maybe just music. Or a recipe for apple pie. Or a picture of Christmas morning.
Or our address, "Earth, third rock from the sun."

All joking aside, I don't believe anything is out there.
But I have an idea. We can't be alone. There is way too much space for it all to be gas, rocks, ice, and nuclear reactors.

And lastly:
The seti project kicks @$$.
I run it to better the scientific database of our Universe.
I only wish I could get closer info on what we have found. What I have contributed. But I guess that go's back to the government thing.

I love you all. Keep crunching.
