I think ET does exist. I beleive that we will discover difinitive evidence within fifty or so years. Benefits would be to broaden our horizons, and expand our possibilities. Of course, if we by chance get a hold of the wrong ET's... Well, then...
I don't think humans have the ability to transmit a strong enough beacon yet for another civilization to find, although I think that one day we will. I think that the answer to both giving and recieving signals will lie in the optical approach, in other words lasers to send signals.
I run Seti in hopes that even if it doesn't find a signal, it will bring people together as it has. The thing that they need to do now, is to start scanning for ptical signals...
