Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, I do believe in the possibility of extraterrestrial life. The universe is too vast to only have one planet with lift. As to when and how contact will happen, we still are not capable of manned deep space travel. So for now radio contact will have to do, unless someone finds us first. I think that the benefits and dangers of contact will be similar to owner experiences here on earth. Many old ideas will be tested and many new ideas will come forth. It is naﶥ to think that contact will be only friendly or only hostile. As we explored the earth we had many first contact experiences some good others bad. We learned from them and grow a better understanding, both of owner self?s and the peoples we met. I think that the same can be expected of any alien life we meet on earth or in space.
2. Should we transmit a beacon? ?If we as a race are ready for contact and the dangers that hostile contact may bring. I do not see why we cannot send a signal. If there is someone out there, they maybe looking for life in space as we are. They may even have some of the same questions we have. What kind of information? ?I think that a simple signal will do for now. Prime numbers and mathematical equations. These will let anyone receiving the single know that we can understand mathematics. Any more information may just get in the way. Direction to find us will not be needed. If they can understand the signal. They will know how to find us.
3. Why do I run SETI@home? I think that the work is of use to us as a race. Some day we may find that we are not alone. I would like to have some knowledge of who is out there before we meet. It may help us prevent any misunderstands that may arise. As fare as to suggestions. I do not have anything that will help that SETI mission at this time.

P.S. If you do find someone out there. Say Hi, for me?
