Profile: Paul Coward

Personal background
I'm 28, from the south coast of England, a little town called Bournemouth. I'm a care team manager in a residential rest home. I enjoy drinking, films, reading, the usual rubbish that gets put in profiles like these really. Astronomy is another hobby of mine, I have a 5 1/2in reflector and go out to the forest near here to stargaze. I've been fascinated by UFO's and the posibility of alien life since I saw one about 10 years ago.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am sure that extraterrestrial life exists and believe that they will make themselves known to us as a race when they see fit to do so. When they do make themselves known to us I don't think you can guess what the impact would be like. For me, it's not going to change alot of what I believe but for some people it's going to shake the very foundations of everything they have always taken for granted. I don't think we should transmit a beacon for others to find because it seems like we are inviting every Tom, Dick and Harry over for a party and if you have a party you always get some dickheads turn up and ruin it for everyone else. I find the best visitors are those that pop round uninvited, it's usually a pleasure to see them and they usually want to see you.
I run SETI because it's nice to be a part of something like this and you never know, it just might be my PC that finds that all important signal.
