| At the moment I am an Engineering Technician working with GNSS for Agricultural use. It is amazing how much technology it takes to make a tractor or combine drive in a perfectly straight line. Satellites, radios and receivers all working together with motor controllers. I love working with electronics and engineering ideas to increase repair productivity to keep these vehicles going. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

I believe extra-terrestrial life exists, mostly because it would be quite lonely and boring out here if it was just us. Besides, the universe is supposedly infinite. How could there not be anyone else with all the space out there . Our planet is not unique to having life. I don't know when we will meet other species; unless we already have and they look just like us. It isn't impossible to have another planet similar to ours that started out the same but the chain of events in their history has been radically different leading them down a more rapid development of the species (and technology). And if that were so then we could benefit from meeting them. If we land on some alien planet and meet a weird gooey species and all they want to do is dissect us, wouldn’t we do the same? And then again, they might be friendly.
If we set up a beacon for other species to find us I just hope they aren't hostile and give us a rememberence of "Independence Day". If we do indeed send out a beacon we should send classical music. To show a non-bias intellegence, and of course so they have something to listen to instead of hissing and crackling noises.
I run SETI because I want to be a part of it. And I hope to find a transmission. That would be the most amazing thing to get an email saying that you are the one to have picked out the transmission. The project so far has been a success. All those work units done and the advancement of the project has come a long long way since it all started. |
