Personal background
My name is Bryce, and I'm a college student at Central Missouri State University. I'm a drafting major, or maybe pre-engineering, still undecided. I love them both, so I might just ahve to do them both. I've got a 3.6 GPA, on the dean's list, but I don't know how much longer I can keep that. Some of the higher-level math is kicking my ass.
When I'm not in school, I'm working full time as a shift manager at Taco Bell. Its no fun, I have no free time. But I will eventually get out of it, that's why I'm going to school. I will not be retiring with a fast-food company, despite what the district manager likes to say.
I love music, I coulodn't live without it. Well, I could, but it would be quite boring. I like just about anything depending on my mood, except country or pop. I especially love all kinds of electronic music, and goth, industrial and metal. I would love to learn how to DJ someday, if I can ever find the time......
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that there is a good possiblity that ET's exist. I don't know if they'd be able to evolve highly enough to find us, and it seems unlikely that there would be a nearby civilization at the right stage of developement for us to find.
Life on earth has been around for a billion years. Human civilization has been around about 10,000 years, and we've only had radio waves for 100. That's a very short period of time, and it seems unlikely we would catch an alien civilization at the short time period when they are using radio. If the aliens wre advanced enough to come find us, it seems likely they would have developed some sort of communication faster than light, leaving radio obselete.
I joined this site because I love science. I'd like to be able to help science in general, but I have no money to make donations with. So I'm helping out this way, its the only way I can. Looking for aliens seems a more noble purpose than looking for obscenely large prime numbers that we can't do anything with once we find them.
