Personal background
I live in Western New York State, on the 9th planet around a medium sized star, which is in turn located in a fairly typical spiral galaxy, which is part of a local "supercluster" of galaxies. I know that some of the more complex molecules in my body would not have found the energy for their creation in my tiny little solar system, so I must have, at some point been part of a giant star which went nova.
If you compare the length of time since this event to the span of a human life, any observations about the life span or age of a human become moot, but I guess that I could say that I am two thirds done with my span.
As for hobbies, I fly high powered model rockets, and write a web page about colonizing an asteroid.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There is no doubt in my mind that extraterrestrial life exists. The nova which created my own building blocks spewed those same materials out in all directions. That material had the requisit resources to create life on earth, why would it not create life elsewhere? We already know that life can exist on our own planet in environments which would kill a human instanly - that should make the number of worlds on which life could thrive number in the trillions...
The SETI@home project lets me participate in the search for my relatives who live on other worlds - but it is an aweful big sky!
