Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I believe, that there is life outside the Earth, but I also believe that man won't ever meet them. We will more likely destruct ourselves before finding extraterrestrial intelligence. And about the benefits and dangers? I really don't know, but I believe that living things are more likely to be friendly than hostile. If some extraterrestrial civilization is so advanced that it can reach us, it's reasonable to assume they are friendly.
2. A beacon to the aliens could consist of music and mathematics (in a simple symbolic form) because they are considered as the true universal languages.
3. I downloaded SETI@home just for curiosity because there's a lot of talk about it. Why do I run this is mostly because to be able to compare calculating times with other users. I think it's very reasonable and clever to share the CPU work to the volunteers from all over the world.
