Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
life exists elsewhere in the universe. in the infinite, everything happens.
the question of "should" humans do anything is irrelevant. we are a planet of insects, so extra-terrestials might look at us humans as "custodians" or "hosts" for the most numerous life on the planet, so send honey-bee honey. yes. clover honey. mmm.
i run seti@home because:
1) distributed computing is fantastic
2) it looks cool on my screen
3) people who don't know what it is say "what the hell is that? it sure looks cool on your screen"
4) people who do know what it is either say "ahh, seti@home" or "isn't distributed computing fantastic?"
suggestion: show more gee-whiz math stuff on the screen saver. i love it. |
