Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe extraterrestrial life probably exists. However, while I believe that we will ultimately be successful in making contact, this view is tempered by the reality that we still can't communicate effectively with the other intelligent life on our own planet, including most other human beings. Thus, we probably won't have a clue what to do when we've actually found intelligent life, if we can recognize it as such in the first place.

Having said that, SETI@home makes perfect sense as it is a very low-net-energy/cost way to try.
