| I suddenly feel as if I am auditioning for a part here... I was born in '54 on the Canadian Praries and lived in Saskatchewan till I was 6... We moved to the West Coast so my father could pursue a doctorate and I have spent the rest of my life here or in the mountains of British Columbia... I now call Victoria home... As an Agoraphobic I do most of my communicating by computer, I can handle the concept of Humanity as long as I can treat it as an abstract... My nickname is Loonard and I come by it as a result of my well developed imagination being fueled by my, somewhat exotic, sense of humor... Somehow, along the way, I have managed to raise four daughters and send them out to wreak havoc on the gene pool... They are all producing fine little Celts who will do some wreaking in their own turn... |

I desperately want us to make contact with other life but fear that until Man can overcome his tendancy to ignore any forms of intelligence other than his own, he won't recognize contact with intelligence when it does come... There is hope though as several of our scientists are beginning to realize that some of our fundamental beliefs are faulty and all those things that were "carved in stone" are actually smoke on the breeze... When contact is made Man will come face to face with all of the responsibilities he has shirked as an "intelligent" being...
Yes we should send out signals in every direction... It is only fair to warn them we are here...
I run Seti@home because it is nice to be able to do something and not have someone turn a profit off of it... I am very enthusiastic about Seti and would like to see it expanded... This project is a beacon of hope for our species... People from around the world, from all levels of society, individuals, groups, organizations, businesses and governments are all working together for a common goal... There might be a chance for us yet... We may not contact a different civilization but we can become civilized while we try... |
