Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why do you run SETI@home?
I do it because it's helping out with something which I honestly
believe in. I do not feel we are alone in the universe. Somebody/something
else is out there and hopefully they have the same interests we do in learning
that they are not alone. It is also a way to be a small part
of something bigger which I would not have the ability to do on my own.

aThoughts about ETI
ET's are out there, but to borrow from Robert Heinlien, one good
thing about space is the distance makes wars very difficult. Intelligent
life forms are probably much as we are in that they are not
out searching the universe for conquests. The public's view of aliens has
been shaped by watching Star Trek and other recently popular movies where
the aliens are adversies (makes for better movies). The benefits could range
from a broader understanding of the basic physics of the universe, understanding
new technologies, and a broadening of the human existance. Of course, the
interesting dilema will be the conflict between theology and the
sciences when ET life is discovered and confirmed.a
