Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1.et exists for sure, nature makes the same coincidences happen frequently. On the existing number of planets life must appear. No benefits unless black holes work, speed of light is the limmit due to e=mc2 and polarization of bodies reaching near c.

Dicovery of et estimated when we become smart enough for decoding signal, we will only be adopted when we're worthy.
et will likely be more advanced because the timespan of life far exceeds the time of spacetravel. so chances are they invented spacetravel a huge time ago.

2.Yes, to make us known as an intelligent species, intelligent but not smart (first transmission 1936 Hitler at olympics)

3.We don't know what et would teach us. At least we should be aware he is out there. Suggestions are limited because i don't know year maths of decoding. Sometimes i think i see a pattern i hope the programm recognises. diagonal sweeps and series of same poweroutput. And what if et talks at the speed of chararacters an hour.
