Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) Yes, E.T. life does exist. Either we will find it or it will find us. The benefit would be just knowing we aren't the only ones in the universe. If we were to actually contact the life, and it was intelligent, then I'm sure we'd be able to learn something from eachother. I'm sure too that once the discovery is made, we will see cults pop up everywhere (hopefully keeping to themselves).

2) We should transmit something, there's no point hiding in the darkness. What should be in the signal though I have no clue. Something that tells about ourselves as organisms and our society I guess.

3) I run SETI@home because it would be cool to be a part of those who discover E.T. life. Some say the project is a waste of time and money, but we don't get stuff accomplished by doing nothing.
