Personal background
I live about 75 miles from the Canadian border in Washington state. Home is forty acres of pines and brush and animals. It is not uncommon to see moose, cougar, bear, coyotes, eagles, redtail hawks as well as our domestic animals. (Horses, dogs, a rabbit and a cat) here.
I am over 50. I play hearts and dominoes and watch the night sky. If you drove up our muddy dirt driveway (make that dusty in the summer!) you might hear the sounds of fiddle or mandolin coming from the house. That is, if we're not out fishing or watching ospreys on one of the local lakes. I live with my children (some of them sometimes) and grandchildren. I read to them and try to interest them in what may or may not be science fiction. I sorrow about wars. My religon is the pines and the wind.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, extaterrstrial life exists, although I don't when we will discover it.
Both the benefits and the dangers are unlimited.
Yes, we should transmit a beacon. We should try to explain that we are not what advance PR (television broadcasts) make us out to be.....or at least, I think that's not what we are about.
Fromst day I heard about SETI, I dl and began to run it. It fills me with awe that so many peoples from so many places van do this project. It is not mandated or legislated, it just IS.
