Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I suspect ETL exists - I believe the odds favor it. Will we discover it? Probably, but it could be centuries from now.
And doesn't it somewhat depend on whether ETL wants to be found? Or is it in a form we will recognize?

The dangers are real, but not likely. Advanced species that can travel to us are just that - advanced. It seems odd that they would harm us unless we are a threat to them.

Running Seti is a simple and painless way to contribute to the advancement of science. Even if EDTL/ETI isn't found, the lessons of the SETI project are useful. The combined computing model has power, and is being copied for other applications.
