Personal background
This intraterrestrial exists in the St. Paul/Minneapols region of the state of Minnesota in the North American Continent of the planet Earth orbiting around a small star called Sol, although after recent elections in a geographical area known commonly on Earth as the United States he wishes he could migrate to a similar planet a few light years away, without all the crazies. New Zealand would be a fine second choice.

The intraterrestrial in question has been alive for approximately 43 revolutions of the planet around the star Sol, and scrabbles for a living by working for the local governing unit which organizes various other intraterrestrials to conduct miscellaneous activities designed to provide for the common good. When not immediately engaged in those activities this intraterrestrial watches pictures generated by a cathode ray tube connected to a primitive (advanced, by earth measures) electronic information and data manipulation device as it generates graphic images depicting visual metaphors for data analysis relating to the search for radio waves from beings inhabiting other planets, hoping that one of them turns about to be a signal inviting dissillusioned voters to come and join them on their planet where they have far fewer crazies.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Do I think that extraterrestrial life exist? I would make a fair guess that it does. Is it intelligent? If I were them, and I had a shred of intelligence, I would be doing everything I could to avoid me. As my mother used to say, "don't put that thing in your mouth! You don't know where it's been!" Same rule applies. Possible benefits/consequences: Worst case scenario, they come and stamp us out. Couldn't be worse than what we are doing to ourselves already. Best case scenario, they come and help us recognize our ability to become better creatures than we let ourselves be.

2. Should humans send a beacon? If so, what should it say? "Beware of the dog."

3. Why do I run SETI@home? Either because it makes my hair shiny and bouncy, and my car gets better mileage, or because space aliens are beaming microwaves at my head telling me that I should unwittingly send them information off of my computer so they can begin planning their conquest of earth. Certainly I am not doing it for fun and profit. Well, not for fun, anyway. What are my views on the project? Not a good view from here... obstructed by trees, hills, and a good amount of the curve of the earth. As for suggestions, if they are sending signals suggesting we come and join them because they have fewer crazies, let me in early. If it turns out they have a book with the title "How to Serve Man" and that's all we know about the book, come get me back.

I reserve the right to change my views in the future.
