Personal background |
I'm a 45 year old space junkie and sci-fi film/TV freak. I was 12 when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface (brought forward to 2 a.m. British Summer Time-thanks NASA)-the same week the BBC began showing a "new" show called Star Trek. My other interests are science, history, cinema and general reading. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Mathematically and statistically, life elsewhere seems inevitable. Philosophically, our world being unique seems "an awful waste of space" (Carl Sagan-Contact).
Ideally, we should discover life with no possibility (at first) of no direct contact to give Humankind time to get used to the concept and possibilities. Xenophobia and conspiracy theories are rife enough already. I don't expect to "find" ET with my PC, but it is a declaration of faith in Seti, and in the possibility of Extra-terrestrial contact. |
