Personal background
Susanne form Hamburg, Germany.

I'm interested in any kind of science or mystics handeling how universe works and what we're meant to be. Still believing in a great plan I'm here looking for answers ...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) Of course extraterrestrial life exists but we should get off searching for for human lifeforms only. That's inside the theorie of evolution and big bang. How can you say that different life under different requirements has to develope the same way we did? ... WE ... we are a group of "civilized" people on the planet earth, but what about the indios and other native tribes who developed different ways of living? What about whales and dolphins? We say they are intelligent too. If you see the differences existing on this world, how can you expect to find something similar right next to you? What's the scale for intelligence?
If we change our point of view -inside and outside- we'll find what we are looking for.
I don't like to talk about benefits and dangers- I think discovering a new species is a kind of mental challenge. We had lots of time to think about how to welcome new "races" when we discovered our own world in the last hundrets or thousands of years. We've made many mistakes but if we don't forget about the past we won’t fail.

2) It doesn't have to be a mistake to send anything out, but what? If we choose data, we have to choose a language, a message or any content. That's NOT LOGIC. Probably human languages sound like noises to aliens, they don't even notice?! Or even worse, our message has a very different meaning?!
We sent out rockets, satelites, probes and stuff and I think that's enough. Our message is: we are interested in space.

3) I run seti as a kind of exclusion for communication on this way. What we receive from space might be useful for astronomy, cathography or to verify any occassion out there, it may give information about ANYTHING, but in my oppinion it's not a way of communication. Communicaton by radio transmissions requests a similar development as we had and I can't refer to that so far. Probably we get a hint helping us to find an extraterrestrial lifeform, but in my opinion we won't communicate by radio transmissions.

Maybe we are already watched but too primitive?
